Who you are actually dealing with
Richardson Tx Garage Door Repair Experts operates this website and arranges garage door visits across Richardson and the surrounding towns. The repair itself is performed by insured local contractors, and the technician attending is identified to you when the visit is arranged. The estimate you approve and the warranty you are given on the day form an agreement between you and that contractor. This website is how the two of you get introduced, and it does not become a party to that agreement.
Verifying a contractor in this city
Texas does not issue a state license specifically for garage door contractors, so nobody in this state holds one and any advertisement claiming otherwise is describing something that does not exist. What the City of Richardson does require, without exception, is that a contractor working inside the city registers with the Building Inspection Department before a permit is issued. That register is public, it is updated almost daily, and Building Inspection takes verification calls on 972-744-4180. Whether a particular piece of garage door work needs a permit at all depends on its scope, and that call belongs to the City rather than to us.
What the published figures are
Every dollar figure on this site is a hedged range for planning a budget, and it says so wherever it appears. Spring wire diameter, inside diameter, relaxed length, cable size and drum capacity are all chosen against the measured weight of your specific door, and on a fifty-year-old Richardson garage the condition of the surrounding hardware moves the number as well. A real price therefore exists only once somebody has stood in front of the door. You receive that figure in writing and approve it before work begins.
Hardware to leave alone
The guides here are written so you can understand a fault well enough to describe it, not so you can repair it. Torsion springs, extension springs, lift cables, cable drums and bottom brackets carry the entire weight of the door and stay loaded with the door flat on the slab. A winding bar slipping out of a cone moves fast enough to break bone, and screwdrivers and lengths of rebar are not winding bars. Please leave all of it to somebody equipped for it.
Codes and standards move
Where this site cites a code or a federal rule it gives the date, so you can check whether it still stands. Richardson adopted the 2021 International Codes and the 2020 National Electrical Code on 24 April 2023. Federal opener requirements under 16 CFR Part 1211 date from 1 January 1991 and 1 January 1993. Those are accurate as written and reviewed periodically, but nothing on this website is legal advice, an engineering specification, or a substitute for what the City tells you about your own property.
Limits of what is offered here
The general information on this website is provided as-is, and we are not liable for loss arising from how it is used. Anything concerning a specific repair, including the parts fitted, the labor, the warranty and the price, is governed entirely by the paperwork issued at the time of that repair. Nothing in these terms restricts any right you have under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
Talking to somebody
